Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, but the Colorado Avalanche has made yet another move ahead of the NHL trade deadline to bolster its depth. But, to get to that trade, we have to go back earlier in the day.

Earlier today, Colorado signed one of their defensemen prospects, Jeremy Hanzel, to a three-year entry-level contract.

Not too long after that, the Avs turned around and traded Jeremy Hanzel and a 2025 third-round pick to the Nashville Predators in exchange for forward Yakov Trenin and the rights to Graham Sward.

The 27-year-old forward has logged 10 goals and four assists for a total of 14 points in 60 games for Nashville this season. He carries a cap hit of $1,700,000 million and is set to become an unrestricted free agent after this season.

Trenin is versatile and can play at both the wing and center positions. Though given Colorado’s current need for a fourth-line center, that’s most likely where we’ll see him slot in. After this trade on the heels of the Duhaime one earlier today, the Avs now have just north of $2 million remaining in cap space. We’ll see if anything else follows.
